The Asexuality Blog
January 1, 2016 11:20am CST
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 2015 is officially over, and with it (hopefully) a lot of stress. I've got the pen pal project running smoothly at last - applicants should have at most a week wait for their match in most circumstances -, my first Carnival of Aces hosting is done and went AMAZINGLY (38 submissions!), and I've reformatted how I run the blog, so there's significantly less stress on that front. So far, it looks like 2016 is going to be a decent year!
Among my plans for this year are: a return to the weekly game nights, another ace day in November, reading ace themed books and providing reviews, and plenty more ace stories series. There will definitely be other projects as well, but I'm not ready to announce those quite yet. Watch this space for the details!!

I've been a busy girl!!!
The announcement has been made for the second Ace Day event. It posted this morning, and I'm feeling quite good about it. I've worked for the past two months researching and making sure (to the best of my ability) that this observance will be every good thing the last one was and none of the bad. You can find the announcement in the Ace Day tab of the site, where I've also updated the page to have navigation to the various event specific pages for ease of perusal.
I've been working on the Ace Pen Pal Project recently as well. The registration form was open all last week, and is now closed again while I match up the current applicants. Once that's done, I'll open it again for more submissions. I'm loving all the interest I'm seeing in this event!
This next podcast episode is proving to be quite the metaphorical mountain. With a topic like Flibanserin, there's a ton of history to provide and significance to relay. Expect this one to be a long episode! I'm nearly done with the script, so hopefully that will be posted within the next week or so. Fingers crossed!
There are also new designs in the store. Namely the Ace Hive Mind design which I think looks pretty cool, especially on travel mugs and notebooks. Check out the Ace Merch link on the site to see those additions.
The Creative Aces art book is in the final stages and it's looking fantastic. The tip jar to collect money for the artists is live and can be found on the Creative Aces Tumblr if you want to donate. All donations are split evenly among the artists!
The Aces Over Twenty blog is up and running. I'm a mod on there and in the corresponding chat room as well. It's the brainchild of a good friend of mine and I'm super excited to be helping out. If you're an adult ace and are looking for resources and support, be sure to check us out!
I've also started a weekly Ace-Themed Puzzle project. The first puzzle, a crossword, posted this past Friday and can be found here (the answer key is here). I'll continue to create and post new games every week!

The Ace Chat Room is one year old today! I'm thrilled with how popular it's become and how many wonderful people have become regular members of it. Here's to a fantastic year, everyone!
Speaking of the ace chat room, the URL address has recently been changed. It is no longer named after this blog, but instead on a universal ace-related name which was voted on by members of the chat room. The links and buttons have been updated, so you can find the new URL via one of those methods.
The sixth episode of the podcast is finally finished and posted (link in the "Podcast" section of this site). I hadn't realized how much time had gone by between episodes and how busy I've been. I'm making a concerted effort to be better about that, regardless of the fact that I'm only getting busier. It's all good busy, though, so I just need to prioritize. Or get an assistant...any offers? I'll pay you in emoticons.
The Ace Pen Pal Project has launched and links to the application and FAQ are available in the "Projects" section of this site. The application is temporarily closed down as there were approximately 1800 applicants in the first ten days of launch (1500 in the first 2 days). It will go live again once I've matched up the original influx. Never fear, it's an on-going project, I promise.
I've been taking part in a task force with other members of the ace community which will focus on our response to Flibanserin (erroneously nicknamed "the female Viagra"), so watch this site for updates on that as things progress. I'm super excited about this and the impact in can potentially have for the ace community and our visibility.
Big things are happening with Asexual Outreach as well. We've been finalizing our high school resource kits, and we're planning conferences and community projects for next year. I'll keep you updated on that as well.
The Creative Ace Art Book "What You See" is officially on it's way to being finalized. Today was the last day for submissions, so next steps for this will be contacting and contracting the remaining artists, selecting our layouts, and getting everything placed and published. The artist "tip jar" will also be launched next week, so if you want to contribute to our artists, you're welcome to utilize that.

My article "How to Write an Asexual Character" has been published on Vitality Magazine's website as of yesterday, and I've seen a lot of praise for it, which thrills me! I've posted the link on the Projects & Publications page.
I've also added my Ace Day statement/apology to the Ace Day page of this site for ease of access.
The North American Asexuality Conference was this past weekend, and it was truly incredible. I have never in my life been so completely at ease amongst a group of strangers. The camaraderie and progress that I felt at this event has renewed my passion for service to to the ace community and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I may have fangirled over David Jay and Ivy Decker just a bit, but they (and everyone else I met) are amazing people and I can't wait to work with them further in the future. I made a ton of new friends and came home tired, but overjoyed and full of new ideas for projects. I can't imagine how much better next year will be.

Prepare yourselves for a MASSIVE news update. This is what happens when I don't update the blog for nearly 2 months. Apologies in advance.
Ace Day was May 8, and there was good and bad that came of it. You'll notice I've created a page on this site for the event, and that's where I'll keep all of the information I have which pertains to both this year's occurrence and any future observations of the day. The statement I released yesterday will also be linked there for those who are not Tumblr based but would like to read it. I'll likely add more details on the page shortly.
The first Ace Community Live Q&A panel session was on June 6 and was fantastic. If you missed the session, but would like to see the recording of it, check out the Asexuality Blog's YouTube channel where it has been posted.
The North American Asexuality Conference takes place next week. I fly out for Toronto in 2 days, so expect to see lots of photos and posts regarding that. I'll be involved with hosting one session as well as leading 2 caucuses, in addition to the normal director work that will come up. I'm super excited about this and I can't wait to get there.
I've got several new community projects on the horizon once the conference is done and I've got a bit more free time. The podcast will likely be my main priority as it's so far behind, but aside from that, I'm working on a book of art by asexual artists that looks to be available by September, an anthology of written works by asexual, aromantic, and/or agender individuals, and a fiction book that I'm personally going to be writing. I've also got some ideas on theme days for Asexual Awareness Week as well as programs to connect people of the community which I'll go into more detail on once they're ironed out.

I have been appointed as a director for Asexual Outreach, which is currently the only registered Ace non-profit in the world. To say I'm a tad excited, would be an understatement. Watch this space as well as www.asexualoutreach.org for information on the organization's projects and news!

Sorry for the lack of updates!!! I've got quite a bit of news, though. I will officially be attending the 2015 North American Asexuality Conference in Toronto at the end of June as the Sessions Coordinator for the committee. If you're interested in hosting a conference, you may apply here. In addition to that news, I have also been added to the Asexual Outreach organization as a member of the Community Outreach division, so my activism knows no bounds!!
There is also an A-Spectrum Collected Works book in planning stages. Short stories, poems, and other creative works will be compiled from various submitters across the Asexuality, Aromanticism, and Agender spectrum and publish in a book sold to promote activism within the communities. Guidelines and Submission points are available here.
Lastly, there are new episodes of the podcast available for listening on the Podcast Page.
